Patient Resources

We welcome you as a patient to Retinal and Ophthalmic Consultants. Please make note of the following items that pertain to visits in our office.

Your pupils may be dilated with eye drops during the exam. Dilating eye drops can blur your vision, especially your reading vision, for several hours. Dilation is almost always performed for patients visiting our retina doctors and sometimes performed for patients who are visiting our glaucoma and cornea doctors. Dilation is rarely performed by the oculoplastic doctor. Please call in advance or ask when you arrive if you have any questions as to whether or not your pupils will be dilated or not.

Due to dilating eye drops and bright lights shining in the eyes, your vision may be blurry when you are done the examination. We strongly recommend that patients come with someone to drive them home.

Please allow plenty of time to receive all of the care you need for your eyes.

  • New patient visits for the retina doctors take at least two hours. For the other eye doctors, this may be somewhat less. Sometimes, additional testing or even treatments are required which would lengthen your expected stay in the office.
  • Follow up visits and postoperative visits usually last between one to one and a half hours.
  • Due to the unpredictable nature in caring for patients, please allow additional time for possible delay. It is very important to us to give every patient the care that they need even if it delays the schedule.

Please remember to bring the following items as needed:

  • Referral from primary doctor if necessary
  • Co-pay
  • Insurance card
  • List of current medications
  • Any information that your doctor may have given you such as laboratory tests or handwritten description
